We have a terribly sad story to share….

We were recently contacted by a Brit working in the Congo, he and his colleagues had been taking care of 2 local dogs known as Basenji’s since they were just a couple of weeks old. They are now 7 months old but their caregivers have now been told the dogs cannot stay with them anymore.

Life for a dog in DRC is not an easy life. Not only do they have to contend with extreme humidity, mango worms and a number of other not so nice parasites, dogs are considered a delicacy so although there are a few dogs around only the ones that are very streetwise manage to avoid being captured and eaten. Rick (brown/white) and Morty (brown) have absolutely no skills at all to survive the jungle, they do not understand that not all humans are kind so it is pretty much a certainty that if they are turned out into the jungle then they will approach someone fairly quickly and meet a horrible end.

War Paws has been asked to help to get these lovely lads to the UK and we have to find a way to make it happen as we cannot just walk away and leave them to certain death. We do not have the luxury of time on our side for this mission, we must move to get them on a flight as soon as we can. On arrival in the UK they will need to be quarantined for up to 6 months but we will actively be seeking a new family for them ready for when they come out.

Please help us to make this happen, we need to raise in the region of £6000 to cover all of their costs and whilst we know we are unlikely to reach that amount quickly we do need to try and raise as much as we can in the next few days so we can get the ball rolling and have the dogs moved to somewhere they will be safe until we can arrange their flights. Every donation, no matter what the amount will help us to keep these lovely pups safe so please consider a donation and remember to share their story.

Reclaim Gift Aid

Gift Aid It!Add 25% more to your donation at no cost to you. A Gift Aid declaration allows War Paws to claim tax back on eligible donations. It means that for every £1 you donate to War Paws we can claim back 25p, at no extra cost to you.

By ticking the "Yes" box, I agree I would like War Paws to reclaim the tax on all qualifying donations I have made, as well as any future donations, until I notify them otherwise. I understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in that tax year I may be asked to pay any difference. I understand that War Paws will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 that I give.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid does not cost you a penny more, but can add an additional 25p to every £1 you donate. When War Paws receives a donation from a UK taxpayer, we're entitled to claim an amount of tax (calculated at the basic rate of income tax in that year) paid on that donation. Once you have given your permission for us to do this on your behalf, there is no need for you to do anything else.

All that is required is that you must be a taxpayer and that would have paid or will pay sufficient Income and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover all the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year. Please note that it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

The amount of tax we claim will be 25% of the total value of your donations in that tax year. Furthermore, if you are a higher taxpayer, you are also entitled to claim the difference between the basic rate which we will claim and the amount of tax you have actually paid. For further details on how you can do this, please contact your tax office. If your tax situation changes and your gifts will no longer be eligible for the Gift Aid scheme please contact us and we will amend your record accordingly.
